Instructional

Instructional League Description

Our Instructional league for 6- and 7- year old players works to help to define the baseball game. We work on positional training, hitting, fielding and game play tactics. Our players see the benefits of teamwork and mental quickness, as well as camaraderie.

Instructional league is also where our new, inexperienced coaches get to develop their own coaching style, and learn to incorporate basic drills and a practice agenda that follows our Player Development guidelines.

Coaches

  • Instructional league will begin with "coach pitch" and players will lose the batting tee.  Batting tee will only be used in practice for hitting drills. (There are always exceptions to the rules, but please only use the tee if you really have to).  By midseason players will transition to hitting live off a pitching machine.

  • Practices should involve drills that keep every player involved and moving at all times.  Basic drills will be provided  by Player/Coach Development for coaches to follow all season. Coaches are always welcome to incorporate their own safe twist to drills at practice.

  • Basic instruction, when given at the right time has a lasting effect, and at times,  can seem like you are talking too much.  You aren't.  The players will remember what you say and how you say it.  Take the time.  Speak.
